Short-term Rentals & COVID

COVID-19 Update 6/5/2020
Per the State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-110, which rescinds Executive Order 2020-96, short-term rentals are now allowed to operate without restriction. The township urges all short-term rental property owners to review the cleaning best practices sent in earlier communications. Please visit the short-term rental toolkit offered by the Grand Traverse County Health Department. Additionally, Traverse Connect (the Grand Traverse area chamber of commerce) is offering a free webinar regarding operation of short-term rentals amid COVID-19.


COVID-19 Update 5/18/2020
Per the State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-92, regarding short-term rentals and owners of second dwellings:

  • All travel to vacation rentals is prohibited.
  • Travel is allowed by property owners between two Michigan residences.
  • This communication was forwarded to licensed short-term rental owners providing updates from the State, as well as recommended best practices to prepare owners when rental activity is permitted to resume.


COVID-19 Update 4/30/2020

COVID-19 Letter Issued to East Bay Charter Township Short-term Rentals
This communication was sent to all short-term rentals within the Township on April 29, 2020 with information on the current pandemic as it relates to the property owner's rental.

Per the State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-59 (and as continued with Executive Order 2020-70 on 5/7/2020), regarding short-term rentals and owners of second dwellings:

  • All travel to vacation rentals is prohibited.
  • No advertising or rental of short-term vacation properties except as necessary to house a health care professional or volunteer responding to the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Travel is allowed by property owners between two Michigan residences.


COVID-19 Update 4/24/2020
Per the State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-59, regarding short-term rentals and owners of second properties:

  • All travel to vacation rentals is prohibited.
  • No advertising or rentals of short-term vacation properties except as necessary to house a healthcare professional or volunteer responding to the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Travel is permitted by property owners between two residences.


COVID-19 Update 4/9/2020

Per the State of Michigan Executive Order 2020-42, regarding short-term rentals and owners of second properties:

  • All travel to vacation rentals is prohibited.
  • Travel between two residences is not permitted after April 10, 2020.
  • No advertising or rentals of short-term vacation properties except as necessary to house a healthcare professional or volunteer responding to the COVID-19 crisis.
