Food Security

The following programs are part of the Township initiative to create food security for the residents of East Bay Township.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program:
Northern Michigan Community Action Agency partners with East Bay Township to utilize the parking lot of East Bay Township Hall as a distribution location for their Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Food is distributed at the Township Hall on the 3rd Monday of each month between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The Township Hall is located at 1965 N. 3 Mile Road Traverse City, MI 49696. Please visit the Northern Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) website to find out more information about all the programs they have to offer.

East Bay Corners Farmers Market:
The residents of East Bay Township identified a Farmers Market and Community Garden as community priorities in the 2023 East Bay Township Master Plan and in the 2024 Parks and Recreation Plan. The East Bay Corners Farmers Market will begin to address this community priority. This is another step towards creating a Food Security Incubator at East Bay Township Hall property. The purpose of the Market is to provide fresh and locally grown produce and goods to the public, educate the public on the importance of farming and best practices for food production, promote local agriculturally based business development, forge partnerships with local farmers and community partners, create a community gathering space at the Township Hall, and create an agribusiness incubator with green-collar professional development opportunities.

The Farmers Market will operate the months of May through October. It will be an evening market on Thursday nights from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
